This is a brilliant little app that would seem to serve best as an adjunct to Mr. Mannings courses. (As he himself said in "Mastering Mix," the discussions about the exercises are as important as the exercises themselves.)
It is a great way to create a custom tailored set of vocal exercises to practice and/or warm-up before an engagement. Knowing your own vocal range and needs, you can choose exercises that make the most of whatever time you have before a gig, or on the road.
* But for those new to or unfamiliar with their voice and/or Mannings methods, I would strongly suggest that an update would include predefined playlists of different lengths to help the newbie focus on the work and not the app itself.
* Adding exercises to a playlist is not difficult, but the interface to do so could be made easier/quicker.
* Modifying settings for individual playlist entries (and playlist names) does not yet seem to be supported.
* I agree completely with what has already been said of the other areas of the interfaces design.
* being able to save tempo and low-high notes for specific exercises saved in your Playlist would be a huge plus.
* The recorded voice could use some de-hissing/noising
* The recorded examples have some wavering in their note accuracy. (This could use the same polish that "Mastering Mix" has compared to the original "Singing Success.")
If you are considering this app, yes in my opinion it is well worth the money even early in its maturity as an application.
Also, I can not highly enough recommend Mannings technique, art, and science behind both "Singing Success" and "Mastering Mix."
20 years ago, I stopped singing. I had been accepted into a prominent music school, but couldnt afford to attend. Life pressures had kept me from singing since.
On the edge of "midlife," and remembering the joy I had felt while singing, I researched online vocal courses in minute detail; finally choosing "Singing Success," (and later, "Mastering Mix").
The products have far exceeded my already high expectations.
When I purchased "Singing Success" nine months ago, Id have been happy simply being able to get back into my head voice. Now, I can hardly believe that I am singing with the first sopranos in the two professional choral ensembles of which I am now a part.
If you follow through with the work, I can only imagine that you too will experience similar success with your own voice.
